Today's lecture cleared up some confusion for me. I now
understand that in determining a molecule's geometry, it is not the number
of electron pairs that determines the shape, but rather the number of
groups of electrons. In other words, a molecule with two double bonds would
have the same shape as one with two single bonds if no other electrons
were present.
