OK, this is my first message, so I'm testing if it works. I have a question
about molecular orbitals. The book said that opposite spin electrons are put
together into the same orbital when pairing. However, orbitals of different
polarities (one positive and one negative) repel each other (antibonding
orbitals). Now, I think that the orbital polarities are determined by the wave
function of the electron, but is that the same as the spin direction of an
electron? Because if so, opposite wave functions should pair just like
opposite electron spins do. I guess I'm a little confused.
