Dan, for the nitric acid problem (1.22 d), did you try putting a double bond
between one of the oxygens and the nitrogen? Also, is this a resonance
structure, since there are two oxygens for which a double bond would work?

And speaking of lost, I would appreciate some clarification on this
anti-bonding orbital business, if anyone can explain it better than the text.
