Jolene, if I'm not mistaken, the carboxyl groups have a carbonyl and a
hydroxyl group as the illustration shows, and the aldehydes may have either an
R or an H attached. Look at the bottom of page 71.

Does anyone have any sugestions for problems such as 2.16 and 2.17? I'm
wondering if there is an efficient and reasonably fast way to find the
different combinations for a given molecular formula. I'm using entirely too
much time and paper and I know there must be a better way than the "hunt and
peck" method that I'm using now.
