Heather, if you pictured a benzene molecule on it's side (2-d) and were
to look at the orbital regions immediately above and below the C atoms-
that is the "region" of delocalized electrons. It sounds kinda strange at
first, but- the way it was explained to me- was that all the non-bonding
electrons just kinda "buzz around" those regions. (incidentally the
delocalized electron regions play a major role in electrical conductivity
