Sandy,
When I first started learning about visualizing 3D structrures
it helped me think of things that were much larger to start. For
example all elements/atoms are different sizes (including all their
electrons). For example a volleyball represents carbon, a basketball
is oxygen, a tennis ball is hydrogen. Obviously this is not to scale
but it is a start. Then imagine taking a yard stick and connecting the
atoms together in the appropriate places. As I became more comfortable
then I could just imagine spheres being connected together. Remember
the sphere or ball represents the nucleus and the electrons too. Also
think about which atoms are the farthest which ones are the closest to
you. I am by no means an expert and I still need a lot of work in
learning but this seem to help me.
I hope I helped
