Does anyone have any suggestions for synthesizing an cycloalkene
from methylcyclopentane? The starting compound does not have any halogens
or hydroxy groups attached to it so none of the methods listed in chapter
seven would work. it seems that adding a halogen and then carrying out a
dehydrohalogenation reaction might work but how does one get the halogen
onto the compound in the first place?
