tojc:grignard reagents

I was wondering when the text talks about the limiting times grignard
reagents can be made it gives c-cH as on on the tinstance grignard can
not be made. the dashed line indicates tripple bond. On pg 490 and
following the text has an example of grignard reagent they said could not
be made.
If this question is clear and I have misunderstood please help.
Also if anyone has a good way to condense the info and explain it in the
restriction on the use of grignard's 11.8B I would appreciate it.
