In regard to the grignard reaction question, one reason that it is
important to keep a dry environment when using a grignard reagent is that
it is very sensitive to acidic compounds.Any compound with an acidic hydrogen
will donate a proton which ruins the reagent. Alcohols, phenols, and
water are among some of the compounds that start this reaction.
