Dear VantraNH,
On problem #5c, the reaction was similar to the process of
the formation of Benzoic Acid in Experiment 25b. The Grignard Reagent,
CH3(CH2)4:MgBr attacked the CO2, forming the carboxylic acid. On #5d, the
answer is found 0n page 484 of the text, #2. The Grignard Reagent
attacked the aldehyde in acid to formthe secondary alcohol. I hopethat
