rates for Sn2

To Anyone,
Could someone explain to me exactly why in an Sn2 reaction there
are two molecules that are used to determine the rate of the reaction
(their concentrations),
while in an Sn1 there is only one. I know that it has to do with the
mechanisms of the various reactions, but I'm not sure exactly what.
