An elimination reaction involves a molecule losing some of its elements
from adjacent atoms of the reactant. The reaction prepares compounds with
double and triple bonds.

ex. -C-C- -----> C=C (p. 261 in text)

Y Z

In a substitution reaction, a group replaces another in a molecule.

ex. R-H + X2 --> R-X + HX

Did I answer your question?
