I'm not quite sure I understand your question, but i'll give it a shot.
In solvolysis the nucleophile is part of the solvent. The leaving group
is part of the substrate. It is the part of the substrate that is
replaced by the nucleophile. The part of the solvent that is not the
nucleophile then combines with the leaving group from the substrate.
Looking at the examples on page 247 will probably help you to understand
it better.
