  1. Use electrode (reduction) potential diagrams as a means of writing half equations and predicting oxidation-reduction equations and their half cell voltages.

  2. Outline the principal methods of preparing the elements as covered in class.

  3. Describe bonding and structures of the oxoanions of the halogens; and predict the shapes of interhalogen compounds, and noble gas compounds.

  4. Cite similarities and differences between the first and second members of a group in the periodic table.

  5. Describe the different molecular or physical forms of carbon, oxygen, and sulfur and the physical behavior associated with them.

  6. Discuss the oxidizing and/or reducing power of the halogen elements and their oxoacids and oxoanions, oxygen, and the noble gas compounds.

  7. Write reactions for producing compounds of the nonmetals as discussed in class.

  8. Cite uses of some of the compounds discussed in this chapter.
